How to do it
Hold a rolled towel overhead with hands about shoulder-width apart.
Stand or sit tall with a slight bend in the knees.
Gently rotate your upper body to one side as far as comfortable, keeping your hips facing forward.
Return to center and repeat to the other side, moving slowly and without bouncing.
Goal
Increase the range of motion available in the upper back and shoulders so a fuller turn becomes physically possible.
Feel cue
Feel a gentle stretch across your upper back and shoulders as you rotate, not in your lower back.
Mistake to avoid
Forcing the rotation past a comfortable stretch, which strains rather than opens the joint.
