How to do it
Set up side-on to a mirror or camera with a mid-iron.
Take the club back slowly and pause when your hands reach hip height.
Check that your lead arm is still straight and your trail elbow is pointing down, not flying up and back.
Adjust either position as needed, then continue to a full backswing.
Goal
Confirm the arm structure is on track early in the backswing, before either fault has a chance to develop further.
Feel cue
Feel width in your arms and your trail elbow staying low, close to your side.
Mistake to avoid
Only checking the position at the top, by which point the fault is already built into the swing.
