Quiet Forearms Takeaway

Take the club away keeping the forearms passive so the clubface does not roll shut before shaft-parallel.

Duration
5 min
Reps
3 sets of 10
Equipment
none
Level
Intermediate

How to do it

  1. Take your address position with a mid-iron and a neutral grip.

  2. Start the takeaway by turning your shoulders, deliberately keeping your forearms still.

  3. Let the club swing back to shaft-parallel without any extra rolling of the hands.

  4. Check the face position, then repeat, gradually increasing to a full swing.

Goal

Remove the extra forearm rotation that closes the face early in the takeaway.

Feel cue

Feel your forearms stay quiet while your chest turn carries the club back.

Mistake to avoid

Manipulating the face open with the hands to compensate, which just swaps one timing move for another.
