Drill ยท Feel
Turn the Hip, Not the Head
Replace the habit of dropping down in the backswing with the feeling of the trail hip turning back and slightly up.
- Duration
- 5 min
- Reps
- 3 sets of 10
- Equipment

- Level
- Intermediate
How to do it
Take your address position and note how tall you feel.
Start the backswing by turning your trail hip behind you rather than flexing the trail knee further.
Keep your height the same throughout the turn, checking against a mirror if needed.
Repeat slowly, then build to full-speed swings with the same feeling.
Goal
Redirect the backswing's energy into rotation instead of an unnecessary drop in height.
Feel cue
Feel your trail hip turn back and up behind you, not squat down and away.
Mistake to avoid
Standing up out of posture entirely while trying to avoid the drop.
