Stick Stop at the Top
Plant an alignment stick just behind your trail heel so an over-long backswing drops the club onto it.
- Duration
- 8 min
- Reps
- 3 sets of 10
- Equipment
- alignment stick
- Level
- Intermediate
How to do it
Push an alignment stick upright into the ground about a foot behind your trail heel.
Take your normal setup with a mid iron.
Swing back to a full top position without letting the club reach the stick.
If you hit it, stop the backswing earlier and hold that shorter top for 2 seconds.
Do 3 sets of 10, finishing each swing through to a balanced finish.
Goal
Put a hard ceiling on backswing length so the lead arm stops before it collapses.
Feel cue
Feel the backswing finish where your lead arm runs out of stretch, well short of anything touching.
Mistake to avoid
Shortening the swing by cutting off your body turn instead of stopping the arms — you want the same full turn, just without the extra arm travel at the end.
