Chair Behind Lead Hip

Set a chair back just behind your lead hip and swing so the hip only turns back into it after the ball is gone.

Duration
8 min
Reps
3 sets of 8
Equipment
chair
Level
Intermediate

How to do it

  1. Set a sturdy chair so its back sits an inch behind your lead hip at address.

  2. Make slow practice swings without a ball.

  3. Start down by moving your lead hip toward the target, not by turning it open.

  4. Let the hip rotate back into the chair only after the club has passed the ball.

  5. Repeat for 3 sets of 8, resetting the chair if it moves.

Goal

Stop the hips from firing open before pressure has moved, by making an early spin physically obvious.

Feel cue

Feel your lead hip slide toward the target first, and only bump back into the chair late, after impact.

Mistake to avoid

Standing further from the chair so you never touch it — the chair only teaches you anything if it is close enough to catch an early spin.
