Lead Heel Lift and Plant

Lift your lead heel during the backswing and plant it back down with an audible thump to start the downswing.

Duration
8 min
Reps
3 sets of 8
Equipment
club
Level
Intermediate

How to do it

  1. Take your normal setup with a mid iron.

  2. As you swing back, let your lead heel lift an inch off the ground.

  3. At the top, plant that heel firmly back down so you hear it land.

  4. Let the downswing start from that plant, not from your hands.

  5. Repeat for 3 sets of 8, listening for the thump every time.

Goal

Build a clear, hearable pressure move into the lead foot before the arms start the club down.

Feel cue

Feel your lead heel thump into the ground and take your weight while the club is still finishing its backswing.

Mistake to avoid

Planting the heel at the same time the arms swing down instead of just before — if you can't hear the thump separately from the swing, the sequence hasn't changed.
