Trail Elbow Gap Check
Stop at the top and use your trail fist as a gauge for how far the elbow has drifted from your ribs.
- Duration
- 5 min
- Reps
- 3 sets of 8
- Equipment

- Level
- Intermediate
How to do it
Set up side-on to a mirror so you can see your trail side at the top.
Swing slowly to the top and freeze.
Let go with your trail hand and make a fist, then fit it into the gap between elbow and ribs.
If the gap is much wider than your fist, reset and turn the arm back closer to your body.
Repeat for 3 sets of 8 checks.
Goal
Turn a vague idea of connection into a measurable gap you can check yourself in seconds.
Feel cue
Feel your trail elbow sitting about a fist away from your ribs, pointing down at the ground rather than out behind you.
Mistake to avoid
Pinning the elbow flat against your side to score well — a totally trapped elbow blocks the turn and creates a new problem at the top.
