Pause and Drop the Hands
Get into your top-of-backswing position without a club, pause, and let your hands fall straight down to waist height.

How to do it
Stand in your golf posture with your hands empty, clasped together.
Turn to your top-of-backswing position and pause completely.
Let your hands fall straight down toward your trail pocket without any push.
Check that your trail elbow has arrived against your side at waist height.
Repeat for 3 sets of 10, then do a few with a club.
Goal
Teach the hands to fall toward the ground at the start of the downswing instead of pushing up and out.
Feel cue
Feel your hands drop straight down under their own weight, like you let go of a rope.
Mistake to avoid
Pulling the hands down with effort instead of letting them fall — if you are working to bring them down, you are still steering rather than dropping.
