Ball Forward Flight Test
Hit sets of three shots, moving the ball forward one ball-width at a time, and keep the position where the flight stops coming out low.
- Duration
- 10 min
- Reps
- 5 sets of 3 balls
- Equipment
- tee
- Level
- Intermediate
How to do it
Mark the center of your stance with a tee and place the ball where you normally play it.
Hit three shots and note how low and how far right they start.
Move the ball one ball-width forward and hit three more.
Keep going forward one ball-width at a time until the flight height looks normal.
Mark that spot and hit a final three shots from it to confirm.
Goal
Let ball flight, not feel, tell the golfer where the ball should be for each club.
Feel cue
Feel the club brushing the ground just after the ball rather than digging in behind it.
Mistake to avoid
Changing your swing as you move the ball forward — swing the same every time and let the flight change on its own, or the test tells you nothing.
