Club-by-Club Stance Ladder

Set your stance for a wedge, then a mid iron, then a driver in sequence, widening one shoe width at each step.

How to do it

  1. Start with a wedge and set your feet about hip width apart.

  2. Switch to a mid iron and widen each foot about half a shoe width, to shoulder width.

  3. Switch to the driver and widen another half shoe width on each side.

  4. Make a slow practice swing at each width and notice how your balance changes.

  5. Run the whole ladder 3 times.

Goal

Stop one stance width being used for every club in the bag.

Feel cue

Feel the base get wider under you as the club in your hands gets longer.

Mistake to avoid

Jumping straight from the wedge to the driver — going through the mid iron in the middle is what teaches you the size of each step.
