Clubface First Alignment

Set the clubface at the target from behind the ball first, then build your feet, hips and shoulders parallel to it.

How to do it

  1. Stand behind the ball and pick your target line.

  2. Walk in and set the clubface square to that line before taking a stance.

  3. Build your feet parallel to the line, not pointed at the target.

  4. Match your hips and shoulders to your feet.

  5. Use this exact order on every shot for a full session.

Goal

Fix the order of the setup so the body is built around a square face instead of the face being adjusted to a crooked body.

Feel cue

Feel the clubface settle behind the ball before either foot goes anywhere.

Mistake to avoid

Taking your stance first and then twisting the clubface to point at the target — that is how the body ends up aimed one way while the face points another.
