Grip End at Belt Check

Check at address that the butt end of the club points at your belt buckle rather than out in front of your body.

Duration

Level
Intermediate

How to do it

  1. Address a ball with a mid iron in your normal setup.

  2. Look down the shaft and see where the butt end of the club is aiming.

  3. If it points out well in front of your belt, you are standing too far from the ball.

  4. Step in until the grip end aims at your belt buckle.

  5. Rebuild the setup 15 times from that distance.

Goal

Set the shaft at the right angle so the club sits on the same plane as the body turn.

Feel cue

Feel the butt of the club aiming straight back at your belt buckle as you look down.

Mistake to avoid

Lifting the hands to point the grip end at your belt while your feet are still too far away — the angle has to come from standing the right distance, not from raising your arms.
