How to do it
Stand directly behind the ball and look down your target line.
Find a leaf, a divot mark or a discoloration about two feet in front of the ball on that line.
Walk in and aim the clubface at that mark.
Build your stance parallel to the line through the ball and the mark.
Choose a fresh mark for every shot in the session.
Goal
Make aiming easy by using a target close enough to see clearly from address.
Feel cue
Feel your eyes locked on a spot just in front of the ball rather than squinting out at the flag.
Mistake to avoid
Picking the intermediate spot once you are already standing over the ball — from there your eyes lie, so always choose it from directly behind the ball.
