Kneeling Hip Flexor Stretch

Kneel on one knee, tuck your pelvis under, and push your hips forward to release the muscles that pull your pelvis into an arch.

Duration
8 min
Reps
3 holds of 30 seconds each side
Equipment
none
Level
Intermediate

How to do it

  1. Kneel on your trail knee with your lead foot flat in front of you.

  2. Tuck your pelvis under so your lower back flattens before you move anywhere.

  3. Keeping the tuck, push your hips gently forward until you feel the front of the kneeling hip stretch.

  4. Hold for 30 seconds, breathing normally, then swap sides.

  5. Complete 3 holds per side.

Goal

Loosen the tight hip flexors that make a neutral pelvis physically hard to hold at address.

Feel cue

Feel a long stretch down the front of the hip on your kneeling leg.

Mistake to avoid

Pushing the hips forward while your lower back stays arched — the tuck has to come first or you just stretch your spine instead of your hip.
